Use it to identify potential risks, adopt necessary security technologies, and put in place effective plans for both responsive and remedial measures in case of a security breach. But just because it’s a first step doesn’t mean it’s a one-time effort — it’s important to go revisit the checklist regularly at least every quarter as part of your safety inspections.
1. Physical Security
Install high-quality locks and controlled keycard access systems on all doors, including doors to rooms, emergency exits, storage areas, staff-only zones, and other sensitive areas.
Install surveillance cameras in public areas indoors and outdoors, including corridors and parking lots, to deter criminal activity and monitor suspicious behavior.
Ensure all areas are well-lit, including corridors, parking lots, and around the perimeter.
Check the perimeter of the hotel for potential vulnerabilities, including broken or otherwise permeable fences or gates.
2. Security Procedures and Staff Training
Develop detailed emergency response procedures for handling security incidents as well as fire evacuation.
Establish a clear chain of command for handling security issues. This should include designating the individuals responsible for contacting law enforcement and emergency services.
